Specialists in
Bosnian maple

For 15 years, Maple Tonewood has worked with top-quality Bosnian maple for luthiers. We source exclusively from Bosnia and naturally air dry all our wood for at least five years.

We discuss each luthier’s requirements directly, including dimensions, figure and quantity. Photographs and measurements help you assess suitable pieces before deciding.

Ivica Pomper is your contact for selection, availability and delivery enquiries.

Why Bosnian maple

Bosnian maple has a longstanding reputation among European luthiers. Its striking flame is part of the appeal, but a good selection also considers grain, weight and seasoning. In The Strad, tonewood specialist Bernard Michaud highlights both the reputation of Bosnian maple and the importance of assessing each piece.

Flamed maple also has a celebrated place in Cremonese lutherie. Stradivari’s 1693 “Gould” violin, preserved at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, has a two-piece maple back with a tight flame. It is a documented example of the maple tradition, rather than proof of a particular Bosnian source.
